SUSTAINABILITY x T.W.I.N.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is not just a buzzword that we throw around casually at T.W.I.N. Our commitment to sustainability is at the core of every decision we make because like you, we believe in supporting businesses who not only talk about sustainability but also act sustainably.

For our first collection, we produced small quantities of styles to limit the amount of potential waste that can occur after an item’s season has run its course. This is why our first collection ranges from standard sizes S-XL (4-18) respectively so that we can begin to learn what sizes our customers are and where the demand lies. We hope to extend our size range to XS-XXL (0-20) by Spring 2022 and hope you, our customers, help us grow by providing feedback on which sizes + styles you need and want to see in the future.

OUR FABRICS

All of our fabrics are purchased on the local market in Huzhou, China, and are classified as deadstock, so there is less fuel usage on transportation and less fabric wastage. All of our fabrics are kinder to the planet like TENCEL and cotton, and when we incorporate limited synthetic fabrics, it specifically supports our commitment to quality by adding softness + strength to the natural fibers.

TENCEL™

TENCEL™ comes from the wood pulp of trees that are grown and replaced on specialized farms. Unlike most cellulosic fabrics, TENCEL™ is produced using recyclable, eco-friendly solvents, which take only half an acre to produce one ton of fiber. Its closed-loop production means 99% of the non-toxic solvent is reused. What is even more remarkable about this fabric is that it is soft + gentle on your skin, breathable, holds its color better, and biodegradable. For more information on TENCEL™ check out this resource.

COTTON

Our cotton products are made of 100% combed cotton. Combed cotton is softer + stronger than regular cotton because the process of combing means it doesn’t have short protruding threads that scratch or fray. Because of this, our combed cotton garments are softer, hold their color better, and last longer than regular or recycled cotton clothes. Additionally, while regular cotton may have a tendency to shrink, you will not experience this with combed cotton, as long as you do not wash it in hot water. This means you will have our combed cotton collection in your arsenal year after year.

WHERE IT’S MADE

At T.W.I.N., it is immensely important to us that our products are sourced and manufactured responsibly. It is our responsibility to be conscious, global citizens, both in how we communicate and carry out our business practices. We only work with partners who share our values, which include respecting people and the environment.

We proudly manufacture our collection at a woman-owned factory in Huzhou, China. Specifically, in the province of Zhejiang. Huzhou is known for its textiles, in particular, it is known as the City of Silk. In fact, the history of Huzhou silk dates as far back as 474 BC.

Alicia and Isabella are in constant direct contact with the people who own and operate the factory and employ dedicated staff who ensure that our commitment to quality and compliance with strict labor practices are upheld. We look forward to sharing more about our partners and practices in the future.
